SAME is a nonprofit professional engineer association, headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia.  SAME was founded in 1920 to engage military and federal government engineers with those in private life for the purpose of improving the engineering potential of the United States.  The Northern Virginia Post is one of about 120 posts located throughout the United States and overseas.  Our motto is dedicated in the interest of National Defense.

THE NORTHERN VIRGINIA SAME Post was organized as the Fort Belvoir Post November 19, 1948 as SAME's then 43th local post.  On 3 August 2000, the Post changed its name from Fort Belvoir to Northern Virginia.  The Northern Virginia Post's geographical area comprises Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William Counties (zip codes starting with 220, 221, and 223).  We usually meet the first Thursday of every month at the Fort Belvoir Officers' Club.

OBJECTIVE is to become the Society's pre-eminent Post by being a premier engineering organization leading the professional and personal growth of all members in support of military readiness and development of solutions to national security challenges in Northern Virginia and beyond.
