Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center: Our private evening icebreaker is only for conference registrants, and is co-hosted with the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution. This museum opened December 2003 on the Dulles Airport grounds. The James S. McDonnell Space Hangar was opened last November to showcase the space shuttle Enterprise. December 2004, 21 newly renovated aircraft were added to existing displays (B-29^above right^, Concorde, and Blackbird among the previous favorites). |

Tuesday evening, April 5, 2005. Doors open at 7 PM to our conference guests and remain open until 10 PM. At this hour, the parking is free. From the hotel, return to highway 50 and travel West about 12 miles. Exit on Route 28 North (to Dulles Airport). Take the first exit (Museum Exit) on the right (overpass takes you to museum on left side of 28). Busses also depart the hotel between 5:45 and 7:30 PM (returning as needed up to 10 PM). This event is free to conference registrants, additional tickets can also be purchased for $100 each in advance. All tickets must be purchased prior to the event; no transactions are permitted on the Museum grounds. |
![]() | Icebreaker Activities: The museum is open to observe at your leisure (it is quite large, in fact huge!). (Early arrivals will be accommodated in the entrance hallway.) Avail yourself of free Docent-led tours highlighting the museum's collection and tracing the history of air and space travel (times posted at the museum). Enjoy complimentary food and drink with friends and colleagues at your side and start conference networking early. We also will have free entertainment (some time-travel air and space celebrities plus music) during this Icebreaker Extravaganza. Dress is business casual. |
![]() | IMAX® Theater: At approximately 8 PM we will have a free showing of Fighter Pilot: Operation Red Flag. This 2004 40-minute movie follows American F-15 Eagle pilot John Stratton as he trains with some of the world's best pilots. If you get queasy from heights, you might want to skip this 6-story high by 83-feet wide screen with action spinning all around you as Stratton flies with air forces of allied countries. |

Donald D. Engen Tower: This observation tower (164 feet up) will be open during the evening. Conference guests can observe Dulles International Airport and the surrounding area with a 360 degree bird's eye view. Watch planes land and take off from the nearby airport. The tower elevator transports 15 people approximately every 5 minutes up and down. |
![]() | The museum shop: The store will be open during the icebreaker offering a variety of merchandise including souvenirs, books, DVDs, models, posters, clothing, and more. Be sure to take something home for those that could not make the trip with you! |
